BroadSoft is Voice over LTE Ready

While a number of interim, non-IMS migration options have been proposed, the recent announcement of a unified IMS approach called One Voice is a step in the right direction. One Voice leverages a subset of the Release 8 and 9 IMS specifications to provide a simple and concrete first step for operators to migrate voice and SMS services to Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks. One Voice has broad industry backing as it was developed by leading mobile operators and equipment vendors: AT&T, Orange, Telefonica, TeliaSonera, Verizon, Vodafone, Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks, Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson.

Mobile and converged operators will find One Voice to be the optimum approach in their pursuit of a secure and smooth transition from circuit switched telephony services to IP-based LTE voice services. Since One Voice is based on IMS, operators are investing in a common core network technology that can be leveraged across both fixed and mobile assets rather than a throw-away interim solution rooted in the TDM world. Through One Voice, mobile calls become VoIP calls, delivering more dynamic and feature rich user experiences for both consumers and businesses.

Through our previous investments in Multimedia Telephony (MMTel) and our recent investments in SS7 mobile network integration, BroadSoft meets and/or exceeds the One Voice feature requirements today on the BroadWorks VoIP application server platform. With the wealth of experience gained from over 50 worldwide IMS deployments, BroadSoft can provide seamless interoperability with all major IMS core network vendors.

BroadSoft's support for One Voice further extends our leadership in mobile telephony and Rich Communications Suite (RCS) services. The increased bandwidth and lower latency of LTE now makes it possible for BroadWorks to deliver IP communications directly to the endpoint, resulting in a dramatically enhanced user experience and mobile telephony feature set.

BroadWorks One Voice Support

One Voice BroadSoft One Voice Support
3GPP IMS BroadWorks supports the latest releases of the IMS standards
Multimedia Telephony (MMTel) BroadSoft supports the industry standard for multi-media calling and supplementary services over IP networks to include Explicit Call Transfer (ECT) and Advice of Charge features (AoC)
IMS Media BroadSoft supports IMS media features including Adaptive Multi-rate (AMR) CODECs
Single Radio Voice Call Continuity (SRVCC) BroadSoft supports IMS call anchoring and call handover between LTE networks and circuit-switched GSM and CDMA networks
Short Message Service (SMS) over IP BroadSoft supports sophisticated SMS capabilities including "single number" SMS for multiple business extensions
Circuit Switch Fallback BroadSoft supports fall back to circuit switch access when required

Beginning this year, the mobile industry will see significant investments in LTE network deployments for data. Given LTE's promised 5 times the cost savings versus TDM for delivering voice, mobile operators will soon follow with the migration of voice traffic onto their common LTE network.

BroadSoft supports the One Voice standard and concurs that it is the most cost-effective approach for delivering voice and SMS services on LTE networks. Furthermore, BroadSoft views One Voice as an accelerated, direct progression to an all IP landscape that is of benefit to the industry at large.
