Second Annual Xtended Mashup Contest, Co-sponsored by IBM, Offers Exposure to Over 500 Million End Users
GAITHERSBURG, MD, April 7, 2009 - BroadSoft, Inc., the leading worldwide provider of VoIP applications, today announced the XContestv2 (XCv2) developer challenge. Co-sponsored by IBM, XCv2 is designed to empower developers to create compelling business and consumer communications applications based on BroadSoft's Xtended Web Services and other open application programming interfaces (APIs).
XCv2 is open to all application developers, software development teams and independent software vendors (ISVs). Winners will be awarded cash prizes totaling over $30,000 and given the opportunity to showcase their applications to BroadSoft's global customer base of more than 450 telecommunications service providers, which includes eight of the top 10 and 14 of the top 25 largest carriers in the world. Through the Xtended Marketplace, BroadSoft's online storefront of third-party applications, developers have the opportunity to reach over 500 million subscribers served by BroadSoft® customers.
"Web 2.0, mobility and social networking have fundamentally changed the world of communications. Individuals, whether in their business or personal lives, are constantly exploring more effective ways to communicate and be productive," said Leslie Ferry, vice president of marketing, BroadSoft. "XCv2 goes beyond traditional mashup contests in that it presents developers with an immediate opportunity to tap into a lucrative market and offer their applications to hundreds of millions of end users."
More than $30,000 will be awarded throughout the course of the contest, offering participants multiple opportunities to win cash prizes. Additionally, the top two winners in each category will receive $1,000 toward a trip to Connections 2009, BroadSoft's annual user conference (October 26-29 in Scottsdale, Arizona), where they will have the opportunity to demonstrate their applications to an expected audience of 800 telecommunications industry executives. Developers who participated in BroadSoft's 2008 mashup contest demonstrated extraordinary creativity and innovation.
