BroadSoft Announces First VoIP Open Client Interface For Both Telecom And Non-Telecom Developers

Telco-grade Server Requirements Absorbed into BroadWorks to Spur Development and Deployment of Customized Applications

SAN JOSE, CA - VoIP Developers Conference, August 3, 2004 - BroadSoft^®, the leading provider of network communications platforms, today announced that it has radically simplified the development of third-party applications with the most comprehensive open interface for hosted voice services. Based on XML and SIP industry standards, the BroadWorks^® Open Client Interface enables developers to focus solely on their area of expertise to deliver high-demand, customized applications on the most widely deployed platform for hosted PBX, IP Centrex and residential broadband voice.

Other platforms require each third-party application to have its own server and set of support functions. For example, a service provider with ten third-party applications could require ten additional servers and ten different solutions for each third-party function (e.g., licensing, back-office integration, redundancy, provisioning, and authentication.) This configuration can result in exponential levels of redundant development and deployment costs and services that are too unwieldy and expensive to manage.

By absorbing these third-party functions into the BroadWorks platform, developers no longer have to be telecom experts to enter this fast-growing field. Using the BroadWorks Open Client Interface, software vendors, service providers and system integrators are free to leverage their core expertise to develop best-of-breed, customized applications that can be marketed to BroadSoft's customers which include BellSouth, Covad, MCI, PCCW, SingTel and Telstra.
