Joseph R. Zell became a General Partner at Grotech Capital Group in January of 2002. At Grotech, Zell focuses on investment opportunities in the Emerging Industries practice with emphasis on the communications, networking, software and outsourcing sectors. Zell has an extensive, 20-year operating background in communications and data networking, including nine years with US West Communications-now Qwest Communications-where he was instrumental in building US WEST's !NTERPRISE Networking Division and was the president of the division for the last four years. He was most recently chief executive officer of Convergent Communications. Prior to US WEST, he held a variety of management positions at WilTel, LDXNet, United Technologies Communications, MCI Communications and Xerox Corporation. Zell is currently a director at BroadSoft, Copper Mountain Networks, Hatteras Networks, and New Ventures of Regis University. Zell graduated with honors from Southwest Missouri State University with a B.S. in Marketing.
