Cbeyond Selects BroadSoft to Provide Advanced VoIP and Multimedia Features of SIPconnect Trunking Service

SIP-based Technology Enables Businesses to Layer Hosted IP Voice and Multimedia Features On Top of Existing IP PBX or Other Legacy Communications Infrastructure

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - February 7, 2005 - BroadSoft Inc., the leading provider of VoIP application software, today announced that Cbeyond Communications is among the first business VoIP service providers to deploy BroadSoft's BroadWorks Business Trunking application to offer network-based enhanced hosted VoIP services to IP PBX users.
BroadWorks Business Trunking is the first such application to enable enterprises to complement IP PBX features with advanced, network-based VoIP and multimedia features hosted by service providers such as Cbeyond. These advanced features can include voice VPN, auto-attendant, attendant console, call center functions, unified messaging, voice mail, click-to-dial, conferencing and video (see related release, titled BroadSoft Unveils Missing Link in Bridging Existing Telecom Infrastructure with Next-Generation VoIP Applications).

The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)-based BroadWorks Business Trunking application lowers costs by enabling direct Wide Area Network access from on-premises IP PBXs, PBXs, or Key Systems without the extra cost of public switched telephone network (PSTN) gateway devices. The application also can link together IP PBXs from different vendors installed across a business customer's various office sites.

This combination of enhanced service capability with corresponding efficiency and cost benefits results from BroadSoft's support of the SIPconnect Interface Specification. SIPconnect was launched by Cbeyond Communications and supported by Avaya, BroadSoft, Centrepoint Technologies, Cisco Systems and Mitel. For more information, visit www.SIPconnect.info.

"BroadSoft is providing us with a valuable new service to our IP PBX customers. This empowers us to offer our customers an expanding menu of premium services - all based on open standards," said Chris Gatch, Chief Technology Officer for Cbeyond. "BroadSoft is a great partner on multiple fronts - from collaborating on the SIPconnect specification through jointly developing strategies for marketing advanced services to our growing customer base."

Cbeyond is a 100% VoIP-based Managed Services Provider that has built a customer base of more than 15,000 small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Denver and Houston and recently processed their two billionth minute of VoIP service. It is among the among the fastest growing of the top-20 U.S. CLECs, according to a December 2004 study by New Paradigm Resources Group (NPRG).

"Cbeyond was one of the first to deploy VoIP as the core of their business model, and whereas other VoIP pioneers have targeted residential services, Cbeyond has a full MSP model based on serving the panoply of business needs," said Greg Mycio, executive director for NPRG. "We believe they have a one- or two-year headstart on competitors in using VoIP to lower cost structures and simultaneously to start selling the kind of services that BroadSoft enables."

"Cbeyond is a leader in proving the business productivity benefits inherent to next-generation VoIP and multimedia applications" said Michael Tessler, president and CEO of BroadSoft. "Cbeyond's focus on the small business market evens the playing field for these entrepreneurial companies by delivering the advanced features that large enterprises already enjoy."
