BroadSoft Announces First Available IMS-Compliant
VoIP Application Platform
IMS Compliance Allows Network Operators to Deploy
Next-Generation VoIP Applications Across Wireless and Wireline Networks,
Provides Enhanced Flexibility and More Application Offerings
NEW ORLEANS - March 14, 2005 - BroadSoft®,
Inc., the leading provider of VoIP application software, today announced
that its BroadWorks® platform is the first commercially available
VoIP application technology that is IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)
compliant. The BroadWorks VoIP application platform has already
been operationally deployed by two of the world's leading infrastructure
providers, Ericsson and Lucent Technologies, in separate IMS-related
carrier roll-outs.
The IMS framework is critical to the delivery of multimedia applications
by service providers over converged network architectures. By unifying
fixed and mobile infrastructures through IMS, BroadWorks allows
both wireless and wireline carriers to deliver the same advanced
applications over landline, mobile or residential broadband networks.
These carriers also gain an open, IP-based infrastructure for next-generation
application delivery and network convergence.
A Significant Advantage for All Network Operators
For wireless operators, this represents a significant expansion
in their ability to deliver rich multimedia applications including
video, messaging, or collaboration features. It also dramatically
lowers barriers to entry and accelerates time to market of VoIP
services for purely landline-based carriers. These benefits combine
to allow an unparalleled opportunity to enhance customer relationships,
recapture lost revenue, reduce churn and deploy innovative new applications
spread across a substantially larger customer base.
The advanced multimedia application capabilities of IMS and BroadWorks
also present a significant advantage for network operators in selling
to the enterprise market. By combining the economics of hosted VoIP
services with productivity-enhancing features such as instant messaging,
presence and conferencing that elevate the value of both landline
and mobile devices, service providers can create a powerful value
proposition and competitive advantage.
Previously, infrastructure constraints forced communications companies
delivering advanced VoIP and multimedia features to create islands
of separation. Now, through IMS, mobile and wireline carriers can
offer hosted VoIP, PBX, conferencing, instant messaging, or other
multimedia features independent of their infrastructure.
"BroadSoft's genesis is rooted in the wireless industry," said
Scott Hoffpauir, chief technology officer for BroadSoft. "BroadWorks
was designed with the belief that network operators should be able
to offer their customers the same variety of innovative applications
for their landline phones as they do on their mobile phones."
BroadWorks and IMS Drive Application Innovation
The BroadSoft IMS-compliant solution provides a future-proof architecture
that enables a graceful migration to an IP-based network environment.
This powerful combination will drive a wealth of new application
innovation - regardless of how subscribers access the network.
As part of the IMS architecture, BroadWorks enables multiple applications
and operations support systems to share common resources across
all networks. As a result, the carrier can offer subscribers access
to the same set of IP applications from a single, user-friendly
management interface regardless of the network or device used to
access them.
"Major carriers operating both wireline and wireless networks no
longer need to create separate application pools for each environment,"
said Danny Klein, senior analyst with The Yankee Group. "With BroadWorks,
applications such as hosted PBX can be accessed by desktop and mobile
phone alike. Therefore, carriers can bundle mobile services along
with landline enterprise or residential applications, setting a
new benchmark for offering customers truly converged IP services."
