Former Allegiance Telecom Senior Executive Joins
BroadSoft Team to Help Meet Worldwide Service Provider Demand for
VoIP Hosted Voice Services
GAITHERSBURG, MD, August 30, 2004 - BroadSoft, the leading
provider of network communications platforms, today announced that
it has appointed Chris MacFarland as BroadSoft's vice president
of operations. MacFarland brings 12 years of senior executive experience
at start-up and large public telecommunications companies to help
BroadSoft scale its operation to support customers, train partners
and rapidly deploy new services.
"I'm pleased to be joining the talented BroadSoft team,"
said Chris MacFarland, vice president of operations at BroadSoft.
"With its superior technology and the largest customer base
in hosted voice, BroadSoft offers an exciting opportunity to be
part of a leading company in an industry that is set to explode."
MacFarland comes to BroadSoft from Allegiance Telecom, Inc., a
facilities-based national local exchange carrier, where he served
as the company's senior vice president and chief technology officer.
While at Allegiance he helped grow the company into one of the largest
competitive local exchange companies (CLECs) in North America. MacFarland
designed all the data and integrated data/voice products, including
the industry leading "Total Communications" product, and
architected and implemented all of the company's network systems.
During his tenure, Allegiance expanded its annual revenues from
$5 million to over $750 million. Allegiance was recently acquired
by XO Communications in June of 2004.
Prior to Allegiance MacFarland held various management positions
at Verio, OnRamp Technologies, and CompuNet. He is active in the
technology sector with standards bodies, such as the Internet Engineering
Task Force (IETF) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics
Engineers, Inc. (IEEE), and advises other emerging technology companies.
"We are proud to add such an esteemed industry leader as Chris
MacFarland to the BroadSoft team," said Michael Tessler, CEO
and president at BroadSoft. "Chris' stellar track record in
the service provider market makes him a unique asset on the vendor
side of the equation. He understands what drives service providers
in the decision-making process and the challenges they face with
new service deployments enabling him to tailor BroadSoft's operations
accordingly. Chris also brings experience building small companies
into industry leaders."
