LEADING TELECOMMUNICATIONS PROVIDER TELSTRA SELECTS
BROADSOFT FOR HOSTED VOICE SERVICES
Telstra will use BroadWorks to offer Large Enterprise
Customers Alternative to PBXs
GAITHERSBURG, MD, and MELBOURNE, VIC, Australia, November 18,
2002 -- BroadSoft® Inc., the leading provider of voice applications
and servers, and Telstra, Australia's leading communications provider,
today announced that BroadSoft's flagship product, BroadWorks,
was selected by Telstra (NYSE & ASX: TLS), to deliver a capability
for network based IP telephony and applications to the Australian
and New Zealand corporate market. Telstra is Australia's leading
telecommunications provider and one of the leading global providers
of communications services.
Telstra will use BroadWorks to expand its Data Network Solutions
portfolio by offering its corporate and government customers a range
of new innovative services including hosted private branch exchange
(PBX) and voice virtual private network (VPN). Telstra will launch
the service later this year.
"Telstra's selection of BroadWorks for deployment of hosted
PBX solutions further demonstrates their industry leadership and
recognition of the positive financial and business impact BroadWorks
can have on world-class carriers. We look forward to working with
them to continue their tradition of offering cutting-edge solutions
to their customers," said Michael Tessler, president and CEO
of BroadSoft.
"Telstra's selection of BroadSoft represents a Tier One global
carrier's affirmation of their strategy for next-generation hosted
PBX solution services. We believe this will send a strong signal
to carriers worldwide that services based upon BroadWorks represent
a significant opportunity to enhance customer sales and increase
profitability," said Frank Dzubeck, president, Communications
Networks Architects Inc., a leading communications analyst firm.
Award-winning BroadWorks is the industry's first integrated system
of voice applications and servers enabling service providers to
deliver basic and enhanced voice services to enterprises, such as
call forwarding, simultaneous ringing and unified messaging. Using
BroadWorks, service providers and customer administrators can manage
administrative functions with BroadSoft's patented web-based portal,
CommPilot.
"We are very excited about the announcement as this development
now provides Telstra with the capability to integrate new and disparate
voice technologies such as PBXs, key systems and IP phones on the
same data network. There is tremendous synergy and value in providing
our key customers with world-class networks augmented with enhanced
voice and data applications. One of the key outcomes is the capability
to mitigate future technology risk for our customers and provide
them with a self-paced migration strategy for attaining voice, data
and video convergence," said Paul Geason, Director of Product
Management, Telstra Enterprise Services.
"BroadWorks' will enable Telstra to rapidly and cost-effectively
market a comprehensive portfolio of carrier-class IP capabilities
such as voice VPN, hosted PBX and enhanced network applications
to our key customers. This technology sets the standard for innovation,
service creation and reliability within the IP telephony market,"
Paul Geason added.
BroadSoft will partner with Dimension Data Australia to deliver
and support the BroadWorks solution. Dimension Data Australia, a
leading provider of Network Services and i-Commerce in Australia,
is a subsidiary of Dimension Data Holdings plc, a leading global
technology services group that operates in over 30 countries.
Graham Munro, General Manager, Enhanced Applications and Solutions,
noted that their customers are accustomed to the highly reliable
services provided by Class 5 switches and enhanced features provided
by PBXs. "BroadWorks can meet both of these critical requirements
and enable Telstra to leverage its voice over IP infrastructure,"
he added.
As an established partner for Telstra in Voice over IP (VoIP),
Cisco will also leverage their leadership in IP telephony and data
to deliver additional support and expertise in the sales and marketing
functions of the new capability.
